Sheri believes God has been preparing her to become a public servant for as long as she can remember. Her early preparation came as the daughter of an Air Force fighter pilot. Sheri’s father instilled in her a great love for our country and appreciation for our unique form of government. Growing up in a military household also helped Sheri to understand the fundamental and vital role our country’s armed forces play in protecting its citizens and our freedoms as Americans. Sheri learned so much about the qualities of leadership from her father who retired from the United States Air Force with the rank of Brigadier General.
Sheri’s parents bought a home on Lake Wateree in 1970 while they were stationed at Shaw Air Force base. She and her sisters attended schools in Camden for four years prior to her father being assigned to an Air Force base in Germany. When her father retired, Sheri and her sisters followed their parent’s home to South Carolina and made South Carolina their homes as well. After growing up living in several states around the country, not to mention a few foreign countries, Sheri learned to really cherish what it means to be a South Carolinian.
Sheri married native South Carolinian, Marty Few, in 1984. Shortly after they were married Marty and Sheri built their home in Lugoff, where they have lived happily ever since. Marty and Sheri have three sons who attended public schools in Kershaw County. Their oldest son Billy is a cadet at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado, where he hopes to follow in the footsteps of Sheri’s father and become a U.S. Air Force fighter pilot. The next in line, Jesse, is a sophomore at North Greenville University where he plays football and hopes to follow in the footsteps of Marty’s father becoming a football coach. Even though their youngest son, Bobby is a freshman at Lugoff Elgin High School, he is the number one golfer on the varsity golf team as the season starts this year. Sheri says that although she has been woefully outnumbered by men in her home, as a mother she couldn’t be prouder of all of her boys.
Professionally, and like many of you, Sheri works in a small business as the owner of a consulting firm. Sheri also serves as President of a nonprofit organization she co-founded eight years ago, South Carolina Parents Involved in Education. Sheri’s work is centered on those who are most important to us and our future, the children in our community. Sheri also supports her husband’s work in his small business.
Sheri is active in the community serving as a volunteer on the School Improvement Council where her son attends high school and she also volunteers for PTO activities. Sheri is 1st Vice President of the Kershaw-Lee Republican Women and the former Chairman of the Kershaw Republican Party. She is an Associate member of the Capital City Republican Women, a 2007 graduate of SC Winning Women, a Lifetime Member of the SC Women’s Caucus, and the 2003 recipient of the E.A. McDowell Award.
In her free time, Sheri enjoys studying her Bible, spending time with her family, and working in her gardens. The Fews are members of Trinity Baptist Church where Sheri teaches an adult Sunday School class. |
